Description
The Cyber Law Consortium is sponsoring a defense industry conference on the topic of DFARS cybersecurity compliance March 19 – 20, 2020, in Dallas, Texas. Starting in September, 2020, the DoD will require DoD prime contractors and all of their Sub-Tier vendors to provide proof of compliance by a third party certification through the CMMC Accreditation Body.
Previously, self-assessment statements by DoD vendors were acceptable to the DoD; but that privilege is soon coming to an end. Effective June 1, 2020 all DoD primes and their Sub-Tier vendors may have to submit to a rigorous cybersecurity audit performed by a CMMC approved Auditor, which will then submit the audit results to a new third-party Regional Certification Center for final approval or disapproval.
The purpose of the conference will be to better understand the current DFARS requirements, risks of non-compliance, emerging requirements under CMMC, and address persistent barriers to compliance for large, small, and mid-sized businesses, and their Sub-Tier suppliers. WMs. Katie Arrington, our keynote speaker, leads the effort within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment, OUSD(A&S) as the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition ASD(A) for Cyber.
