Description
AI and quantum computing: building the quantum economy
Featuring:
Gopal Gupta, Ph.D., department head - department of computer science, UT Dallas
John Randall, Ph.D., president, Zyvex Labs
John Spencer, Ph.D., president and CEO, Photodigm
Gopal Gupta, PhD is the head of Computer Science Department at the University of Texas at Dallas where he holds the Erik Jonsson professorship. His areas of research interest are in programming languages and AI, specifically, automated-reasoning and explainable AI. He has published extensively in these areas. His research work has also resulted in commercial software systems that have formed the basis of two startup companies. He has won several best-paper awards as well as the 10-year test-of-time award of the International Conference on Logic Programming. He obtained his PhD from UNC Chapel Hill in 1991 and his B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur, India, in 1985.
John has a B.S. (1975), M.S. (1977), PhD (1981) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston.
John Spencer, PhD President and Founder, Photodigm, Inc. Dr. Spencer received the Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Rice University. Following technical positions at General Electric Company, Texas Instruments, and Machine Technology, he founded PlasmaQuest, Inc., subsequently sold to ASTeX (acquired by MKS Instruments); and in 2000, Photodigm, Inc. Under his leadership, Photodigm, building on the strength of a world class technical team and a dedicated in-house semiconductor laser fab, has emerged as the leading commercial supplier of single frequency DBR laser products for use in frequency references, cold atom physics, low noise, optical pumping, lidar, and spectroscopy. As a result, Photodigm is recognized as a key laser supplier for the emerging quantum metrology and sensing market.
