SUMMARY:Artificial Intelligence forum - April 30
DESCRIPTION:AI and quantum computing: building the quantum economy \n \n\nFeaturing: \n\nGopal Gupta\, Ph.D.\, department head - department of computer science\, UT Dallas\n\nJohn Randall\, Ph.D.\, president\, Zyvex Labs\n\nJohn Spencer\, Ph.D.\, president and CEO\, Photodigm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGopal Gupta\, PhD is the head of Computer Science Department at the University of Texas at Dallas where he holds the Erik Jonsson professorship. His areas of research interest are in programming languages and AI\, specifically\, automated-reasoning and explainable AI. He has published extensively in these areas. His research work has also resulted in commercial software systems that have formed the basis of two startup companies. He has won several best-paper awards as well as the 10-year test-of-time award of the International Conference on Logic Programming. He obtained his PhD from UNC Chapel Hill in 1991 and his B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur\, India\, in 1985.\nJohn Randall\, PhD joined Zyvex Labs in March\, 2001. Prior to Zyvex\, John spent 15 years with Texas Instruments (TI) where he worked in high resolution processing for integrated circuits\, MEMS\, and quantum effect devices and also worked at MIT?s Lincoln Laboratory on ion beam and x-ray lithography. John is Executive VP at NanoRetina and currently lends his 30+ years of experience in micro- and nano-fabrication to his roles as Adjunct Professor at UT Dallas and Fellow of the AVS and IEEE. He has attracted over $38M in research contracts to Zyvex and resulting products have grossed over $80M. John has 104 published articles\, more than 50 conference proceedings and other publications ( 3300 citations) and 29 issued US Patents ( 700 citations).\n\nJohn has a B.S. (1975)\, M.S. (1977)\, PhD (1981) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston.\n\n\n\nJohn Spencer\, PhD President and Founder\, Photodigm\, Inc. Dr. Spencer received the Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Rice University. Following technical positions at General Electric Company\, Texas Instruments\, and Machine Technology\, he founded PlasmaQuest\, Inc.\, subsequently sold to ASTeX (acquired by MKS Instruments)\; and in 2000\, Photodigm\, Inc. Under his leadership\, Photodigm\, building on the strength of a world class technical team and a dedicated in-house semiconductor laser fab\, has emerged as the leading commercial supplier of single frequency DBR laser products for use in frequency references\, cold atom physics\, low noise\, optical pumping\, lidar\, and spectroscopy. As a result\, Photodigm is recognized as a key laser supplier for the emerging quantum metrology and sensing market.
