Tech Luncheon Features Former CTO

The identification of nine tech trends for 2022 were woven into an informative and educational story on the evolution of the CTO at the June 17 monthly Tech Industry luncheon. Former NTTData CTO and current guest lecturer at UT Dallas, Kris Fitzgerald, told the audience the trends haven’t changed that much over the past five years, but some form of AI has crept into the application and has now become a key focal point for companies, especially CTOs.
Fitzgerald identified the trends as 5G, Metaverse/Expanded Experience, Internet of Behaviors, Quantum as a Service/Encryption, Blockchain, Cybersecurity & Enhanced Privacy, Renewable Energy, All Things Cloud, and Hyper Automation. As he highlighted in each trend in his presentation, he emphasized the AI component that makes each one more effective.
During his 44-year career as a CTO, Fitzgerald saw the CTO go from being heavily focused on product development because they owned the technology, R&D and labs. Now CTOs are much more externally focused and the key drivers of impact and innovation. He cited the change where CIOs now report to CTOs in many companies as to how far the evolution has come.
He now works with students at UTD to prepare them for entering the workforce in his role as guest lecturer/mentor. He encourages students to work on improving social skills especially those of other cultures, to look for the disruptors in business, and “above all always be learning.”
The Tech Industry Luncheon is a monthly event that features an innovative and often iconic subject matter expert that discusses leading trends and business applications of technology. The luncheon is traditionally held on the third Friday of the month.
The July 15 Tech Industry Luncheon will feature Worlds CEO Dave Copps speaking on AI and the Supply Chain.
