About Us

Mice and rats are the cornerstone of neuroscience discovery and drug development. Nearly every breakthrough therapy in neurology and psychiatry has passed through in vivo rodent studies as the critical step before advancing into human clinical trials. These experiments are indispensable because they reveal how new compounds act in the living brain and nervous system — but they are still largely limited by traditional scoring methods.
Blackbox is a Harvard Medical School spinout commercializing a patented deep-tech sensor and AI characterization system that solves this problem. Our platform uses night vision and unique bottom-up imaging to capture voluntary rodent behavior in the dark, free from the suppressive effects of human observation. This vantage point reveals subtle signs of impairment and disease that conventional methods miss, enabling high-throughput, objective, and reproducible analysis at scale. Additionally, our approach is leveraging generative AI to produce ''Virtual Mice'' that are dramatically reducing reliance on live animals to expand human understanding of the brain.
All of Blackbox's software engineering, R&D, manufacturing, and administrative operations are proudly based in North Texas, leveraging the robust manufacturing and supply chain capabilities of the area and supporting our region’s growing biotech and technology ecosystem!
